Thanks to the presence of "zapovedniks" (nature reserves) in the north of the lake, it has been possible to preserve wildlife here in an almost untouched state. The first nature reserve on Baikal's shores - the Barguzinsky zapovednik - was set up at the beginning of the last century. And now it is quite common to meet bears on the shores of the Baikalo-Lensky or Barguzinsky zapovedniks, and, in early summer, this lord of the Taiga comes out onto the shores in large numbers. It is not for nothing that one part of the Baikalo-Lensky zapovednik is named the Coast of the Brown Bear.
