Lake Baikal, Olkhon Island. E-cards
Olkhon, the largest of Baikal's islands, is situated in the central part of the lake, close to its western coast. The island stretches more than 70 km along Baikal's shores. The island is 15 km in width, has an area of 700 square kilometres, and 210 km perimeter.
The Island of Olkhon is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of Baikal. The island is especially vivid in autumn. Covered by a golden carpet of grasses and forest, touched by the fiery colours of autumn, Olkhon seems to stop still under the mighty blows of Baikal's waves and winds bursting down from the mountain ranges in expectation of the severe Siberian winter.
